BIS is the National Standards Body of India responsible for harmonious development of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods.

The ISI mark is a certification mark for industrial products in India that indicates conformity to Indian Standards (IS). Products with ISI mark assure quality, safety and reliability as per BIS standards.

You can verify BIS certification through the BIS Care app or by visiting the BIS website and using the 'List of Certified Products' search feature. Always check for the unique registration number along with the ISI mark.

The process involves: 1) Application submission, 2) Factory inspection, 3) Product testing, 4) Grant of license if all requirements are met. The complete procedure is available on the BIS portal under 'Certification' section.

BIS has identified over 380 products that require mandatory certification including electrical appliances, cement, steel products, automotive components, food products, and more. The complete list is available in the 'Compulsory Registration Scheme' on BIS website.

BIS certification is the traditional product certification scheme (ISI mark) while BIS registration is under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) for electronics and IT products. Registration involves testing products from BIS recognized labs.

Indian Standards can be purchased online through the BIS website or at any BIS office. Some standards are available for free download. BIS also maintains standards libraries across India where you can refer to standards documents.
